The Rwanda Office of Tourism and National Park (ORTPN) has used this event to raise much needed revenue through their Adoption Program. The revenue raised ensure they can finance initiatives that help them deliver on their promise to protect the mountain gorilla and achieve their mission to remove them off the endangered species list. Individuals and Corporate Companies can get involved by adopting a baby gorilla.

ORTPN has used the Kwitizina Event to raise much needed revenue through their Adoption Program. The revenue raised ensures they can finance initiatives that help them improve the lives of the communities surrounding the parks. Individuals and Corporate Companies contributed for:
√ Sabyinyo Community Lodge (SACOLA) costed Usd 1,2 million is now operational and will be launched during the coming June Kwita Izina week.
√ 10 Water Tanks were constructed
√ 2 Schools were constructed and equipped
√ Community Commercial Shop Complex in progress in Kinigi
√ PNV Buffalo Wall completed
√ A ten community projects were supported – Ex poachers association, Etc.
Humans and gorillas share more than 97% of their genetic material. There are two species of gorillas, western lowland gorilla (scientific name Gorilla gorilla ) and eastern lowland gorilla ( scientific name Gorillas beringei). The mountain gorilla is a subspecies of eastern lowland gorilla. They are found in two forests island : the Virunga Massif share by Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
